| Từ thử đến giờ Hội Thánh vì công nghiệp nên cho những Chức Sắc niên kỷ quá lục tuần đặng vào hàng phẩm Hàm Phong hầu an dưỡng lúc tuổi già, gọi là hồi hưu dưỡng lão. | From the beginning until now, the Sacerdotal Council, in recognition of meritorious service, has allowed Dignitaries over sixty years of age to enter the ranks of Honorary Dignitaries to find peace in their old age, what is called retiring to be cared for. |
| Một điều Hội Thánh thương tâm hơn hết, là thấy toàn Đạo xem Chức Sắc này dường như vô giá trị, còn kéo lẽ ngay nhẹ thể hơn Tín đồ. | One thing the Sacerdotal Council finds most heartbreaking is to see the entire religion treat these Dignitaries as if they have no value, even treating them with less respect than a Believer. |
| Bởi cớ vì nét công bình của Chí Tôn, thấy con cái Thầy chịu khó nhọc trong buổi ban sơ, nên đến lập giá trị cho Chức Sắc Hàm Phong. | It is because of the Supreme Being’s principle of justice, seeing His children endure hardship in the early days, that He came to establish a value for the Honorary Dignitaries. |
| Cốt yếu là muốn cho Hội Thánh nhìn nhận các công nghiệp ấy đặng để cho đoàn hậu tấn noi gương, kẻo chúng nó quên mấy anh mấy chị thành ra thất lễ nghĩa. | The essential reason is to have the Sacerdotal Council acknowledge those meritorious deeds so that the future generation has an example to follow, lest they forget their elder brothers and sisters and thus become disrespectful and unrighteous. |

| Cái sống của toàn cầu là sống trong đường danh nẻo lợi, chẳng phải nhơn nghĩa là gì, chỉ có cái sống của con người, là cốt yếu nhứt mà thôi. | The life of the entire globe is a life lived on the path of fame and fortune, with no regard for righteousness. The life of a human being has become the only thing that matters. |
| Nơi trường thảm khóc kia Chí Tôn đã thấy nhơn loại đương tranh ăn giành sống, sắp giết hại lẫn nhau. | On that field of tears, the Supreme Being saw humanity contending for food and struggling for life, on the verge of killing each other. |
| Thời tưởng nếu mình ngồi một địa vị Ông Cha lành, ngồi thấy con tàn diệt như vậy, nghĩ có an lòng không? | Imagine if you were in the position of a good Father, sitting and watching your children destroy each other like that; would your heart be at peace? |
| Lẽ tất nhiên Ngài phải tầm phương giải kiết, chúng sanh đã thất đạo nhơn nghĩa, nhơn luân, sự tranh sống trước mặt của nhơn loại đã hết tánh chất loài người. | It is only natural that He had to find a way to resolve the conflict. Sentient beings had lost the way of righteousness and human ethics. The struggle for life before the eyes of humanity had lost all human quality. |
| Cái tham tâm dục lợi càng buông lung thêm mãi, nên nạn tự diệt hầu gần, cũng do tại đó. | The greed for profit and desire grew ever more unrestrained, so the catastrophe of self-annihilation drew near because of it. |
| Ấy vậy muốn có món thuốc giải kiết cứu sống nó lại, thời tức phải phục hưng cái đạo nhơn nghĩa, đã có từ mới tạo Thiên lập Địa, đặng qui tựu thiên lương. | Therefore, to have a medicine to resolve the conflict and save them, it was necessary to revive the path of righteousness that had existed since the creation of Heaven and Earth, in order to return to the celestial conscience. |
| Hễ ngày nào loài người biết lấy nhơn nghĩa làm trọng, thì chừng đó cơ quan sanh sống mới hết quyền năng tàn hại. | The day humanity knows to hold righteousness as important, on that day the mechanism of life and survival will lose its destructive power. |
| Vì vậy Chí Tôn mới kiếm món thuốc ấy đặng cứu loài người mà toàn cầu chỉ dùng viên thuốc của Chí Tôn đến đặng lựa chọn. | That is why the Supreme Being sought that medicine to save humanity, and the whole globe only needed to use the pill that the Supreme Being came to select. |
| May thay Tổ Phụ chúng ta đã bốn ngàn năm lập nghiệp chịu yếu ớt bạc nhược đè ép, khổ khắc nhưng vẫn ôm mãi mối đạo nhơn luân, không giản không xa. | Fortunately, our Forefathers, for four thousand years, established their legacy. Though they endured weakness and crushing hardship, they always held on to the path of human ethics, never straying nor straying far. |
| Nhờ cầm vững món thuốc ấy, nên Chí Tôn quyết chọn thuốc Nam, lấy Đạo Nhơn Luân lập nền Quốc Đạo cho chúng ta. | Because they held fast to that medicine, the Supreme Being decided to choose the medicine of the South, taking Human Ethics to establish a National Religion for us. |
| Thời tưởng ra đâu phải điều mới mẻ, chẳng qua là lấy cái báu nhà trau giồi cho sạch đem ra phô bày nơi mặt thế. | This is not something new; it is merely taking the treasures of our own house, polishing them clean, and displaying them to the world. |
| Chúng ta không cần học hỏi nơi ai, mà chính thật hành y theo đó. | We do not need to learn from anyone else, but simply practice according to it. |
| Chí Tôn lại chia phận sự, nhứt là phận sự lập vị Thiêng Liêng thời về phần Ngài làm chủ cả vạn vật. | The Supreme Being also divided the duties. In particular, the duty of establishing the Divine Ranks belongs to Him, for He is the master of all things. |
| Mà lập vị cho con cái của Ngài không đặng, hỏi còn ai nữa, hay là còn mê về Thánh Thể tại thế. | If He cannot establish ranks for His own children, then who else could? Are we still confused about the Divine Body on earth? |
| Chúng ta không cần thuyết hay cần suy nghiệm tức nhiên cũng hiểu rằng: Ngài giao Thánh Thể Ngài bảo tồn nhơn luân đạo. | We need not preach or even reflect on it to understand: He entrusted His Divine Body to preserve the path of human ethics. |
| Chẳng phải là Ngài biểu chúng ta làm cho cả loài người phải hiển Thánh hiển Thần, mà trái lại chỉ thay thế cho Ngài giáo hóa nhơn luân, chỉ đạo cho họ là đủ. | This does not mean He tells us to make all humanity become manifest Saints and Deities, but on the contrary, simply to act on His behalf to teach human ethics, to show them the path. That is enough. |
| Rồi do cái công nghiệp ấy để tự Ngài định vị cho mình. | Then, from that meritorious service, He will determine our rank Himself. |
| Hiện thời những sự mê tín của đời, đã làm cho cả trí não đầu óc của người trở nên điên đảo rối loạn tinh thần. | Currently, the superstitions of the world have made the minds and intellects of people become chaotic and spiritually disordered. |
| Hồn cũng vì đó mà tiêu hủy, nhưng chúng ta đã may duyên sẵn có nền Đạo chơn chánh trong tay. | The soul is also destroyed because of this. But we have the fortunate karma to already have the true Religion in our hands. |
| Thời chúng ta chỉ dụng cái báu nhà mà thôi, không còn ai mong mỏi nhồi nắn chúng ta đặng. | So we need only use the treasures of our own house. No one else can hope to mold us. |
| Ấy vậy, ngày nào quốc dân Nam tỉnh giấc, tùng y theo chơn pháp của Đạo Cao Đài, thời ngày ấy không còn ai đem mê tín dị đoan nhét vào cái óc ta đặng. | Therefore, the day the people of Nam [Vietnam] awaken and follow the true dharma of the Cao Đài Religion, on that day no one will be able to stuff superstitions into our minds. |
| Không tiếc gì cái óc mê tín phần đông vẫn còn nên bị cám dỗ, phân chia Đảng phái, mà phá tan cả gia nghiệp Đạo của ta phải phản quốc mà thôi. | It is a pity that the minds of the majority are still superstitious, so they are easily seduced and divided into factions, which only serves to shatter our religious family legacy and turn us against our country. |
| Lại còn bất hiếu với Tổ Phụ nữa mà chớ. | It is also an act of being unfilial to our Forefathers. |
| Trót 13 năm trường Chí Tôn chọn mấy vị niên kỷ, hao biết bao giọt mồ hôi chan hoà giọt lụy khổ não với Đạo mà vào hàng phẩm Hàm Phong. | For a long thirteen years, the Supreme Being chose the aged, who shed so many drops of sweat mixed with tears of sorrow for the Way, to enter the ranks of Honorary Dignitaries. |
| Nói ngay ra nhiều chơn lý, thiệt tay tạo thành chơn tướng của Đạo, là do nơi công nghiệp của mấy anh, mấy chị chớ không phải đám thanh niên sau này. | To speak plainly, many true principles, the true form of the Way itself, were created by the meritorious work of you elder brothers and sisters, not by the youth of today. |
| Ngày nào mấy anh mấy chị dựng lại đặng cả hồn phách Quốc dân Nam, để đền đáp ân sâu của Tổ Phụ rồi mới thỏa nguyện. | The day you elder brothers and sisters can re-establish the entire spirit of the people of Nam, to repay the deep grace of our Forefathers, only then will your wishes be fulfilled. |
| Mấy anh mấy chị, có trăm tuổi rủi phần xuống tuyền đài nhìn mặt Tổ Phụ của chúng ta cũng không thẹn, vì đã trả xong mảnh hiếu tâm với Đạo. | You elder brothers and sisters, if you should live to a hundred and unfortunately pass on to the netherworld, you will not be ashamed to face our Forefathers, because you will have fulfilled your filial duty to the Way. |
| Còn hiện giờ cái gia nghiệp của mấy anh mấy chị tạo thành đây, biết đâu đến phiên đoàn hậu tấn, thay vì chúng nó bảo trọng trở lại tàn diệt tiêu tan. | But as for the family legacy that you have created here now, who knows what will happen when it is the turn of the future generation. If instead of protecting it, they destroy and annihilate it. |
| Thời lý nào mấy anh mấy chị lại làm ngơ, ngồi xem kẻ vô cổ sau này mặc tình phá hủy. | How could you elder brothers and sisters turn a blind eye and sit and watch those without roots from later on destroy it as they please? |
| Đến đổi Chí Tôn đến tạo Đạo, còn lo các Đấng Chơn Linh tối cổ để giao mối chơn truyền. | Even the Supreme Being, when He came to create the Way, still concerned Himself with the ancient Supreme Beings to whom He could entrust the true transmission. |
| Chẳng khác chi một vị tân quan đến trấn nhậm xứ nào, cũng phải nhờ mấy ông kỳ lão, mới rõ thông xứ ấy đặng. | It is no different from a new mandarin who arrives to govern a region; he must rely on the village elders to understand that region well. |
| Thời có đâu Hội Thánh chẳng coi hạng kỳ lão là trọng. | So how could the Sacerdotal Council not regard the rank of elders as important? |
| Mấy anh mấy chị nhớ ngó lại xem đoàn hậu tấn thời thấy trí não nó đã đảo điên hết rồi. | You elder brothers and sisters, just look at the future generation and you will see their minds are all turned upside down. |
| Hình xác An Nam mà đầu óc chẳng còn mảy mún chi An Nam nữa. | They have the physical bodies of Annamites [Vietnamese], but not a trace of the Annamite mind remains. |
| Vậy Đạo mà nên hay chăng, thiệt tướng hay chăng, chẳng phải nhờ nơi đám tân thời, mà do nơi mấy anh mấy chị. | So whether the Way will succeed or not, whether its true form will manifest, depends not on the modern youth, but on you elder brothers and sisters. |
| Mấy anh mấy chị tưởng mình già rồi đã hết phận sự nên xin nghĩ về nhà an dưỡng. | You elder brothers and sisters think that because you are old, your duty is finished, so you ask to retire and rest at home. |
| Rồi thử hỏi gia nghiệp này hư hủy mấy anh mấy chị có bằng lòng không? | But I ask you, if this family legacy is ruined, will you be content? |
| Cái gia nghiệp vĩ đại này gẫm lại toàn nòi giống chúng ta hưởng tận thế cũng vẫn còn. | This great family legacy, when you think about it, will be enjoyed by our entire race until the end of the world. |
| Thời lý đâu lại coi nó rẻ hơn cái gia đình cỏn con của mấy anh mấy chị. | So how could it be regarded as cheaper than the tiny little family of you elder brothers and sisters? |
| Bần Đạo thay thế cho Hội Thánh, xin gởi cái Đạo nhà chúng ta nơi tay mấy anh mấy chị vì là người lịch duyệt khôn ngoan đạo đức hơn, đặng nắm giềng mối Đạo. | I, on behalf of the Sacerdotal Council, ask to entrust our religion of the house into the hands of you elder brothers and sisters, because you are more experienced, wiser, and more virtuous, to grasp the reins of the Way. |
| Nếu để hư thời tội tình ấy mấy anh mấy chị phải gánh vác. | If you let it be ruined, that sin is one you must bear. |
| Bây giờ Bần Đạo mới chỉ rõ chẳng phải nói ngồi nhà mà thành ra vô dụng. | Now I will point this out clearly. It is not to say that by sitting at home one becomes useless. |
| Tỷ như trị thế không đặng chớ giáo hóa cũng không đặng nữa sao? | For instance, if one cannot govern the temporal world, can one not also teach? |
| Vậy nơi nào có Chức Sắc Hàm Phong ở đó, chẳng cần nói là một vị Tín Đồ dầu Hộ Pháp hay là Giáo Tông đi nữa mà thất Đạo, thời phần trách cứ ấy về phần mấy anh mấy chị phải chịu. | Therefore, wherever there is an Honorary Dignitary, it need not be said that if even a Believer—or for that matter, the Hộ Pháp or the Pope—should betray the Way, the responsibility for censure falls to you elder brothers and sisters. |
| Nếu mình biết coi cái đại nghiệp nước nhà, mà người nào sẵn tay tàn phá làm rẻ rúng nó, thời có lý đâu mình điềm nhiên toạ thị. | If you know to watch over the great legacy of our nation, and someone readily destroys and cheapens it, how could you sit by and watch with indifference? |
| Từ đây dầu cho Hộ Pháp hay là Giáo Tông, chẳng lựa chi là Tín Đồ, mà thất Đạo nghịch chơn truyền, thời tội tình ấy mấy anh mấy chị lãnh phần gánh vác. | From now on, whether it is the Hộ Pháp or the Pope, let alone a Believer, who betrays the Way and goes against the true transmission, the sin of that is for you elder brothers and sisters to take on. |
| Lâu lâu nữa tháng hoặc một tháng, hễ nghe đứa nào thất Đạo, thì mời nó đến để lấy lời giáo hoá. | Every once in a while, every half-month or month, if you hear of a child who has betrayed the Way, invite them and offer them words of teaching. |
| Nếu nó không nghe, mấy anh mấy chị dầu có trầu rượu lạy nó, đặng đền cái hiếu cái nghĩa cho Tổ Phụ, chúng ta tưởng cũng không phải hổ mà. | If they do not listen, you elder brothers and sisters, even if you have to offer betel and wine and bow to them to repay the filial piety and righteousness to our Forefathers, I think it is no cause for shame. |
| Ngày nào dầu ngoài Đời hay là trong Đạo, thất Đạo nhơn luân mà Bần Đạo không thấy một mảnh thơ của mấy anh mấy chị thời Bần Đạo trở nên người thù nghịch của mấy anh mấy chị. | The day, whether in the temporal world or in the Way, someone betrays the path of human ethics, and I do not see a single letter from you elder brothers and sisters, then I will become the enemy of you elder brothers and sisters. |
| Nếu hiển nhiên trước mắt mình thấy một vị Chức Sắc dầu cơ quan nào làm điều chi sái, phi pháp hại danh thể Đạo thời mình không cần nói đến. | If it is evident before your eyes that a Dignitary, of whatever body, does something wrong or illegal that harms the good name of the Way, you do not need to speak of it. |
| Chỉ lấy đủ bằng cớ cả hồ sơ gởi về cho Hội Thánh, hoặc là xin trục xuất cất chức ngưng quyền hay đuổi đi nơi khác, tùy theo tội nặng nhẹ. | Just gather enough evidence, compile a complete file, and send it to the Sacerdotal Council, requesting either expulsion, dismissal from office, suspension of powers, or transfer to another place, depending on the severity of the offense. |
| Nhưng phải hứa với Hội Thánh rằng: Mình chấp giữ quyền hành ấy cho đến ngày nào có vị Chức Sắc khác thế. | But you must promise the Sacerdotal Council that you will uphold that authority until another Dignitary is appointed to replace them. |
| Nam cũng vậy, Nữ cũng vậy, kể từ nay Bần Đạo xin giao quyền kiểm soát cả nền Đạo nơi tay của Hội Thánh Hàm Phong. | This applies to men and women alike. From this day forward, I ask to entrust the authority to oversee the entire Religion into the hands of the Sacerdotal Council of Honorary Dignitaries. |
| Giao cả hành trình, giao cả tinh thần đạo đức đoàn em Quốc dân Nam này, cho mấy anh mấy chị giáo hoá chúng nó. | I entrust the entire course of action, the entire spiritual virtue of this generation of the youth of Nam, to you elder brothers and sisters to teach them. |
