To the Male and Female Divinely Ordained Dignitaries, the Divine Body of the Supreme Being, the Bodies of Religious Administration, and to my younger Brothers and Sisters, my Children, both Male and Female.
Hôm nay là ngày Vía Đức Quyền Giáo Tông Thượng Trung Nhựt, mỗi năm ngày kỷ niệm của Ngài Bần Đạo đã thuyết nêu không có điều chi lạ, cả con cái Đức Chí Tôn có đặng mới mẽ điều chi chăng? Today is the Feast Day of the Venerable Acting Pope Thượng Trung Nhựt. Every year on his commemorative day, I have preached. Is there anything new? Have the children of the Supreme Being found anything new?
Trường hợp đã hiển nhiên trong thế sự, giờ phút này là giờ phút quyết định, vận mạng tương lai của Tổ Quốc Việt Nam và vận mạng tương lai của chủng tộc nòi giống. The situation is evident in world affairs; this moment is a decisive one for the future destiny of the Vietnamese Fatherland and the future destiny of our race.
Tình trạng thay đổi một điều mới mẽ chúng ta nên để ý suy gẫm, ngộ nghỉnh thay, là chỉ có ba mươi năm xuất hiện mà Đạo Cao Đài, có một năng lực đào tạo thay đổi thế sự nước Việt Nam một cách đáng kể. The situation is changing, something new that we should contemplate and reflect upon. How remarkable that in only thirty years since its appearance, the Cao Đài Religion has possessed a power to shape and change the affairs of Vietnam in a significant way.
Nhứt là ảnh hưởng đương nhiên nó đã làm cho cả tâm lý của nhơn loại, vạn quốc đều phải để mắt đến nó. Especially, its current influence has caused the psyche of humanity and all nations to take notice of it.
Hỏi cái quyền hành tối cao tối trọng ấy, chúng ta ngó thấy có phải chúng ta làm nên đặng chăng? Let us ask: this supreme and vital authority, do we see that it is we who have created it?
Không: Không phải, nếu kẻ thiếu đức tin, hay các nhà triết học thấy cả cái mạng vận đương nhiên của nó rồi quan sát, cả tình thế dĩ vãng của nó thì người ta sẽ nói Đạo Cao Đài có một năng lực. No. No, it is not. If those lacking faith or philosophers were to look at its current destiny and observe its past situation, people would say the Cao Đài Religion has a power.
Họ tưởng đâu cái năng lực theo thế thường của thiên hạ, lấy cái mạnh, cái oai quyền, lấy năng lực tranh đấu, theo thường tình của nó là thành đặng, không Bần Đạo làm chứng rằng, không phải vậy. They would think that this power comes from the usual worldly means—from strength, authority, and the power of struggle—that it succeeded in the ordinary way. No, I bear witness that it is not so.
Quả quyết không phải như vậy, bởi vì chúng ta nên quan sát cả tình thế nước nhà, cái tình thế đương nhiên của nòi giống ta, không phải năng lực chúng ra gầy nên uy tín cao trọng của nó đương nhiên được, quyền năng ấy là quyền năng vô hình trong tay của Đấng Tối Cao. I declare with conviction that it is not so. Because we should observe the situation of our country, the current situation of our race. It is not our own power that has built its current high prestige. That power is an invisible power in the hands of the Supreme Being.
Quyền năng vô biên kia của Đức Chí Tôn của Đại Từ Phụ đó vậy. It is the boundless power of the Supreme Being, of the Great and Merciful Father.
Bần Đạo đã quan sát và suy gẫm khi đã đem thân ra quốc tế, làm con hạc Đạo, đem cái tiếng thanh tao của tâm lý đạo đức tinh thần an ủi cả tâm hồn khổ não đương nhiên của họ. I have observed and reflected when I took my body to the international stage, acting as a religious crane, bringing the refined voice of spiritual virtue to comfort their currently suffering souls.
Bần Đạo biết rằng, không phải quyền năng của mình mà quyền năng vô đối của Đức Chí Tôn đó vậy. I know that it was not my own power, but the unparalleled power of the Supreme Being.
Trước khi Đạo chưa ra khỏi nước, mà quyền của Đạo toàn cả thiên hạ đều biết cái chơn tướng của Đạo, thiên hạ đã tầm thấy trước. Before the Way had even left the country, the power of the Way was such that the whole world knew its true nature; the world had seen it beforehand.
Ấy vậy Bần Đạo nói cái giọt Cam Lồ cứu khổ của Chí Tôn, không phải rãi nội trong nước Việt Nam này mà thôi, mà cả toàn con cái Ngài và toàn nhơn loại. Thus, I say that the Supreme Being’s drops of Salvation Nectar are not sprinkled only within Vietnam, but [are intended for] all His children and all of humanity.
Chúng ta suy đoán như thế rồi chúng ta ngó lụng lại cái dĩ vãng của Đức Quyền Giáo Tông hồi mở Đạo, Đạo mới phôi thai, như trẻ sơ sanh kia vậy. Having reasoned thus, we look back at the past of the Venerable Acting Pope when the Way was first opened. The Way was then in its embryonic stage, like a newborn child.
Mặc tình cho thiên hạ muốn để sống thì sống, muốn giết chết thì giết, họ đã mưu toan diệt tiêu nó bởi vậy ngày sản xuất nó ra với một huyền linh phi thường, thiên hạ kinh khủng sợ sệt. Left to the mercy of the world—to let live or to kill as they pleased. They plotted to annihilate it because on the day of its birth, it possessed an extraordinary sacred mystery, causing the world to tremble in fear.
Trước họ gần họ muốn cho nó trở nên một tu sĩ, mà tiếng tục người ta nói, Cụ Thầy Chùa kia mà thôi, và người ta mơ vọng cho nó trở nên như thế, người ta đã áp bức nó, người ta đã sỉ nhục. At first, they were close to it, wanting it to become a mere monk—or as the common saying goes, just an “old temple master”—and they hoped it would become just that. They oppressed it, they humiliated it.
Cái sỉ nhục ấy, người có thể làm chứng chắc chắn là Đức Quyền Giáo Tông và Đức Cao Thượng Phẩm. The ones who can bear certain witness to that humiliation are the Venerable Acting Pope and the Venerable Cao Thượng Phẩm.
Ngộ nghỉnh thay! Cả cái sự sỉ nhục buổi nọ, hôm nay nó đã biến thành một vinh quang vô đối. How remarkable! All that humiliation from back then has today transformed into an unparalleled glory.
Bần Đạo tưởng, nếu cả tâm hồn chúng ta đem cái giá trị của hai Đấng mà so sánh, không ai tạo dựng nó, nếu không phải quyền năng Thiêng Liêng vô hình, quyền năng vô đối của Đức Chí Tôn mà làm nó đặng. I believe that if we compare the value of those two Beings in our souls… No one created it, if not for the invisible Divine power, the unparalleled power of the Supreme Being.
Trước người ta sỉ nhục tới một vị ngồi trên Ngai Thiêng Liêng của Đức Chí Tôn, người ta vẫn mạt sát chà đạp. Before, people humiliated even a Being seated on the Divine Throne of the Supreme Being; they reviled and trampled upon him.
Hôm nay con cái của Người, đám em út của Người đó có thể có một quyền năng sửa đời cải thế đặng, tạo Đời một cách mới mẻ vậy. Today, His children, His younger brothers and sisters, possess a power to correct the world and change the times, creating a Life in a new way.
Cái năng lực chúng tôi tạo dựng riêng biệt không bắt chước ai không xin ai, chính mình chúng tôi tạo thành đó vậy. The power we have built is unique; we did not imitate anyone, we did not ask anyone for it. We ourselves created it.
Xét lụng lại cái dĩ vãng, ngó cái đương nhiên bây giờ của chúng ta, nếu cả thảy con cái của Đức Chí Tôn thấy thế nó làm chứng quả quyết cho người Anh Cả buổi ban sơ chịu khổ nhục dường nào hôm nay chúng ta hưởng được cái vinh quang phú quí. Looking back at the past and looking at our present situation, if all the children of the Supreme Being can see this, it bears definitive witness to how much humiliation the Eldest Brother endured in the early days, so that today we may enjoy this glory, wealth, and honor.
Thật ra Đức Chí Tôn rất công bình và rất mạnh mẽ đó vậy. In truth, the Supreme Being is very just and very powerful.
Đêm hôm Bần Đạo có làm một bài thi để ghẹo Đức Quyền Giáo Tông: Last night I wrote a poem to tease the Venerable Acting Pope:
Nguyện vọng như anh đã thỏa rồi, Cố tâm kế chí có thằng tôi. Your aspirations, Brother, have been fulfilled, With determined heart and will, this humble servant remains.
Bầu linh gậy sắt Ông an thế, Chày Giáng Xử Ma tớ giúp đời. With gourd of elixir and iron staff, You bring peace to the world, With pestle for banishing demons, I help life’s domains.
Vững tiếng xa thơ già gắng đẩy, Xuôi chèo Bát Nhã trẻ đua bơi. Steady is the chariot’s sound, the old one strives to push, Smoothly rowing the Prajna boat, the young ones race and strain.
Khuôn hồng trước thấy trời quang đảng, Kế nghiệp mai sau vẫn có người. The vast mold sees clearly the sky bright and clear, To inherit the legacy hereafter, people will remain.
