| 334. As creeping ivy craving grows | 334. Người sống đời phóng dật, |
| in one living carelessly. | Ái tăng như dây leo. |
| Like this, one leaps from life to life | Nhảy đời này đời khác, |
| as ape in the forest seeking fruit. | Như vượn tham quả rừng. |
| 335. Whomsoever in this world | 335. Ai sống trong đời này, |
| this wretched clinging craving routs | Bị ái dục buộc ràng |
| for such a one do sorrows grow | Sầu khổ sẽ tăng trưởng, |
| as grass well-soaked with rain. | Như cỏ Bi gặp mưa. |
| 336. But whoever in this world | 336. Ai sống trong đời này |
| routs wretched craving hard to quell, | Ái dục được hàng phục |
| from such a one do sorrows fall | Sầu rơi khỏi người ấy |
| like water drops from lotus leaf. | Như giọt nước lá sen. |
| 337. Prosperity to you, I say, | 337. Ðây điều lành Ta dạy, |
| to all assembled here! | Các người tụ họp đây, |
| When needing grass's fragrant root | Hãy nhổ tận gốc ái |
| so craving extirpate. | Như nhổ gốc cỏ Bi. |
| Don't let Mara break you again, | Chớ để ma phá hoại, |
| again as a torrent a reed! | Như giòng nước cỏ lau. |
| 338. As tree though felled shoots up again | 338. Như cây bị chặt đốn, |
| it its roots are safe and firm | Gốc chưa hại vẫn bền |
| so this dukkha grows again | Ái tùy miên chưa nhổ, |
| while latent craving's unremoved. | Khổ này vẫn sanh hoài. |
| 339. For whom the six and thirty streams | 339. Ba mươi sáu dòng ái [1] , |
| so forceful flow to seemings sweet | Trôi người đến khả ái. |
| floods of thought that spring from lust | Các tư tưởng tham ái. |
| sweep off such wrong viewholder. | Cuốn trôi người tà kiến. |
| 340. Everywhere these streams are swirling, | 340. Dòng ái dục chảy khắp, |
| up-bursting creepers rooted firm. | Như giây leo mọc tràn, |
| Seeing the craving-creeper there | Thấy giây leo vừa sanh, |
| with wisdom cut its root! | Với tuệ, hãy đoạn gốc. |
| 341. To beings there are pleasures streaming | 341. Người đời nhớ ái dục, |
| sticky with desire, | Ưa thích các hỷ lạc. |
| steeped in comfort, happiness seeking, | Tuy mong cầu an lạc, |
| such ones do come to birth, decay. | Chúng vẫn phải sanh già. |
| 342. Who follow craving are assailed, | 342. Người bị ái buộc ràng, |
| they tremble as the hare ensnared, | Vùng vẫy và hoảng sợ, |
| held fast by fetter and by bonds | Như thỏ bị sa lưới. |
| so long they come to dukkha again. | Chúng sanh ái trói buộc, |
| Chịu khổ đau dài dài. | |
| 343. Who follow craving are assailed, | 343. Người bị ái buộc ràng, |
| they tremble as the hare ensnared, | Vùng vẫy và hoảng sợ, |
| so let a bhikkhu craving quell | Như thỏ bị sa lưới. |
| whose aim is passionlessness. | Do vậy vị tỷ kheo, |
| Mong cầu mình ly tham | |
| Nên nhiếp phục ái dục. | |
| 344. Who without woodness inclines to the wood. | 344. Lìa rừng lại hướng rừng [2] |
| free in the wood to woodness returns. | Thoát rừng chạy theo rừng. |
| Do now regard that person well | Nên xem người như vậy, |
| who free returns to fetter. | Ðược thoát khỏi buộc ràng. |
| Lại chạy theo ràng buộc. | |
| 345. Neither of iron nor wood nor hemp | 345. Sắt, cây, gai trói buộc |
| is bond so strong, proclaim the wise, | Người trí xem chưa bền. |
| as passion's yearn for sons, for wives, | Tham châu báu, trang sức |
| for gems and ornaments. | Tham vọng vợ và con. |
| 346. That bond is strong, proclaim the wise, | 346. Người có trí nói rằng: |
| down-dragging, pliable, hard to loose. | Trói buộc này thật bền. |
| This passion severed, they wander forth | Trì kéo xuống, lún xuống, |
| forsaking sensual pleasures. | Nhưng thật sự khó thoát. |
| Người trí cắt trừ nó, | |
| Bỏ dục lạc, không màng. | |
| 347. Ensnared in passion back they fall | 347. Người đắm say ái dục |
| as spider on a self-spun web. | Tự lao mình xuống dòng |
| This passion severed, wander the wise | Như nhện sa lưới dệt. |
| forsaking dukkha all. | Người trí cắt trừ nó, |
| Bỏ mọi khổ, không màng. | |
| 348. Let go before, let go the after, | 348. Bỏ quá, hiện, vị lai, |
| let go the middle, beyond the becoming. | Ðến bờ kia cuộc đời, |
| With mind released in every way | Ý giải thoát tất cả, |
| you'll come no more to birth, decay. | Chớ vướng tại sanh già. |
| 349. For one who's crushed by thinking much | 349. Người tà ý nhiếp phục, |
| excessive lust from beauty's sight, | Tham sắc bén nhìn tịnh, |
| for that one craving grows the more, | Người ấy ái tăng trưởng, |
| that one makes strong the bonds. | Làm giây trói mình chặt. |
| 350. But who delights in subduing evil thoughts, | 350. Ai vui, an tịnh ý, |
| meditates on the impurities with mindfulness, | Quán bất tịnh, thường niệm, |
| that one indeed will make an End, | Người ấy sẽ diệt ái, |
| and will sever Mara's bonds. | Cắt đứt Ma trói buộc. |
| 351. One who's fearless, reached the End, | 351. Ai tới đích không sợ, |
| of craving and of blemish free, | Ly ái, không nhiễm ô |
| who has becoming's thorn plucked out, | Nhổ mũi tên sanh tử, |
| has this, a final body. | Thân này thân cuối cùng. |
| 352. One of clinging-craving free, | 352. Ái lìa, không chấp thủ. |
| who's skilled in way of chanting, | Cú pháp khéo biện tài |
| knowing the wording-sequence, | Thấu suốt từ vô ngại, |
| of what precedes and follows, | Hiểu thứ lớp trước sau. |
| possessed of final body, | Thân này thân cuối cùng |
| one greatly wise, "Great Person"'s called. | Vị như vậy được gọi, |
| Bậc Ðại trí, đại nhân. | |
| 353. Beyond all beings, wise to all, | 353. Ta hàng phục tất cả, |
| unsoiled by dhammas all am I, | Ta rõ biết tất cả, |
| left all and freed by craving's end, | Không bị nhiễm pháp nào. |
| by self I've known, whom teacher call? | Ta từ bỏ tất cả |
| Ái diệt, tự giải thoát. | |
| Ðã tự mình thắng trí, | |
| Ta gọi ai thầy ta? | |
| 354. Gift of Dhamma surpasses all gifts, | 354. Pháp thí, thắng mọi thí! |
| the Dhamma, its taste all other tastes beats, | Pháp vị, thắng mọi vị! |
| delight in the Dhamma bests other delights, | Pháp hỷ, thắng mọi hỷ! |
| destruction of craving conquers all ill. | Ái diệt, thắng mọi khổ! |
| 355. Riches ruin a foolish one | 355. Tài sản hại người ngu. |
| but not one seeking the Further Shore, | Không người tìm bờ kia |
| craving for wealth a foolish one | Kẻ ngu vì tham giàu, |
| is ruined as if ruining others. | Hại mình và hại người. |
| 356. Weeds are a fault of fields, | 356. Cỏ làm hại ruộng vườn, |
| lust's a human fault, | Tham làm hại người đời. |
| thus offerings to the lustless | Bố thí người ly tham, |
| bear abundant fruit. | Do vậy được quả lớn. |
| 357. Weeds are a fault of fields, | 357. Cỏ làm hại ruộng vườn, |
| hate's a human fault, | Sân làm hại người đời. |
| hence offerings to the hateless | Bố thí người ly sân, |
| bear abundant fruit. | Do vậy được quả lớn. |
| 358. Weed are the fault of fields, | 358. Cỏ làm hại ruộng vườn, |
| delusion, human's faults, | Si làm hại người đời, |
| so gifts to the undeluded | Bố thí người ly si, |
| bear abundant fruit. | Do vậy được quả lớn. |
| 359. Weed are the fault of fields, | 359. Cỏ làm hại ruộng vườn, |
| desire, human's faults, | Dục làm hại người đời. |
| so gifts to the desireless | Bố thí người ly dục, |
| bear abundant fruit. | Do vậy được quả lớn. |
