| 320. Many folks are ill-behaved | 320. Ta như voi giữa trận |
| but I shall endure abuse | Hứng chịu cung tên rơi, |
| as elephant in battlefield | Chịu đựng mọi phỉ báng. |
| arrows shot from a bow. | Ác giới rất nhiều người. |
| 321. The tusker tamed they lead in crowds, | 321. Voi luyện, đưa dự hội, |
| the king he mounts the tamed, | Ngựa luyện, được vua cưỡi, |
| noblest of humans are the tamed | Người luyện, bậc tối thượng |
| who can endure abuse. | Chịu đựng mọi phỉ báng. |
| 322. Excellent are mules when tamed | 322. Tốt thay, con la thuần, |
| and thoroughbred from Sindh, | Thuần chủng loài ngựa Xinh. |
| noble the elephant of state, | Ðại tượng, voi có ngà. |
| better still one tamed of self. | Tự điều mới tối thượng. |
| 323. Surely not on mounts like these | 323. Chẳng phải loài cưỡi ấy, |
| one goes the Unfrequented Way | Ðưa người đến Niết bàn, |
| as one by self well-tamed | Chỉ có người tự điều, |
| is tamed and by the taming goes. | Ðến đích nhờ điều phục. |
| 324. Hard to check the tusker Dhanapala, | 324. Con voi tên Tài Hộ, |
| in rut with temple running pungently, | Phát dục, khó điều phục, |
| bound, e'en a morsel he'll not eat | Trói buộc, không ăn uống. |
| for he recalls the elephant-forest longingly. | Voi nhớ đến rừng voi. |
| 325. A sluggard stupid, steeped in gluttony, | 325. Người ưa ngủ, ăn lớn |
| who's sleep-engrossed, who wallows as he lies, | Nằm lăn lóc qua lại, |
| like a great porker stuffed, engorged with swill, | Chẳng khác heo no bụng, |
| comes ever and again into a womb. | Kẻ ngu nhập thai mãi. |
| 326. Formerly this wandering mind wandered | 326. Trước tâm này buông lung, |
| where it wished, where whim, where pleasure led. | Chạy theo ái, dục, lạc. |
| Wisely this day I will restrain it | Nay Ta chánh chế ngự, |
| as trainer with hook an elephant in rut. | Như cầm móc điều voi. |
| 327. Do you delight in heedfulness | 327. Hãy vui không phóng dật, |
| and guard your own mind well! | Khéo phòng hộ tâm ý. |
| Draw yourselves from the evil way | Kéo mình khỏi ác đạo, |
| as would elephant sunk in slough. | Như voi bị sa lầy. |
| 328. If for practice one finds a friend | 328. Nếu được bạn hiền trí |
| prudent, well-behaved and wise, | Ðáng sống chung, hạnh lành, |
| mindful, joyful, live with him | Nhiếp phục mọi hiểm nguy |
| all troubles overcoming. | Hoan hỷ sống chánh niệm. |
| 329. If for practice one finds no friend | 329. Không gặp bạn hiền trí. |
| prudent, well-behaved and wise, | Ðáng sống chung, hạnh lành |
| like king be leaving conquered land, | Như vua bỏ nước bại, |
| fare as lone elephant in the wilds. | Hãy sống riêng cô độc, |
| Như voi sống rừng voi. | |
| 330. Better it is to live alone | 330. Tốt hơn sống một mình, |
| for with a fool's no fellowship, | Không người ngu kết bạn. |
| no evil do, be free of care, | Ðộc thân, không ác hạnh |
| fare as lone elephant in the wilds. | Sống vô tư vô lự, |
| Như voi sống rừng voi. | |
| 331. Blest to have friends when one's in need, | 331. Vui thay, bạn lúc cần! |
| blest contentment with whatever is, | Vui thay, sống biết đủ, |
| blessed is merit when life's at an end, | Vui thay, chết có đức! |
| abandoning all dukkha is blessedness. | Vui thay, mọi khổ đoạn. |
| 332. Respect for one's mother brings happiness here | 332. Vui thay, hiếu kính mẹ, |
| as well as respect for one's father. | Vui thay, hiếu kính cha, |
| Here happiness comes from respecting the monks | Vui thay, kính Sa môn, |
| and those of virtue excellent. | Vui thay, kính Hiền Thánh. |
| 333. Blest is virtue till life's end | 333. Vui thay, già có giới! |
| and blest the faith standing firm, | Vui thay, tín an trú! |
| blest the attainment of wisdom | Vui thay, được trí tuệ, |
| and blest the non-doing of evils. | Vui thay, ác không làm. |
