The Brahmana	Phẩm Bà La Môn
383. O brahmin, strive and cleave the stream,	383. Hởi này Bà-la-môn,
desires of sense discard,	Hãy tinh tấn đoạn lòng,
knowing conditioned things decay	Từ bỏ các dục lạc,
be Knower-of-the-Uncreated.	Biết được hành đoạn diệt,
	Ngươi là bậc vô vi.
384. When by the twofold Dhamma	384. Nhờ thường trú hai pháp [1]
a Brahmin's gone beyond	Ðến được bờ bên kia.
all the bonds of One-who-Knows	Bà-la-môn có trí,
have wholly disappeared.	Mọi kiết sử dứt sạch.
385. For whom is found no near or far,	385. Không bờ này, bờ kia [2]
for whom's no near and far,	Cả hai bờ không có,
free of fear and fetter-free,	Lìa khổ, không trói buộc
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
386. Seated stainless, concentrated,	386. Tu thiền, trú ly trần
who's work is done, who's free of taints,	Phận sự xong, vô lậu,
having attained the highest aim,	Ðạt được đích tối thượng,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
387. The sun is bright by day,	387. Mặt trời sáng ban ngày,
the moon enlights the night,	Mặt trăng sáng ban đêm.
armoured shines the warrior,	Khí giới sáng ban đêm.
contemplative the Brahmin True.	Khí giới sáng Sát lỵ,
But all day and night-time too	Thiền định sáng Phạm chí.
resplendent does the Buddha shine.	Còn hào quang đức Phật,
	Chói sáng cả ngày đêm.
388. By barring-out badness a "brahmin" one's called	388. Dứt ác gọi Phạm chí,
and one is a monk by conduct serene,	Tịnh hạnh gọi Sa môn,
banishing blemishes out of oneself	Tự mình xuất cấu uế,
therefore one's known as "one who has left home".	Nên gọi bậc xuất gia.
389. One should not a brahmin beat	389. Chớ có đập Phạm chí!
nor for that should He react.	Phạm chí chớ đập lại!
Shame! Who would a Brahmin beat,	Xấu thay đập Phạm chí
more shame for any should they react.	Ðập trả lại xấu hơn!
390. For brahmin no small benefit	390. Ðối với Bà-la-môn,
when mind's aloof from what is dear.	Ðây [3] không lợi ích nhỏ.
As much he turns away from harm	Khi ý không ái luyến,
so much indeed does dukkha die.	Tâm hại được chận đứng,
	Chỉ khi ấy khổ diệt.
391. In whom there is no wrong-doing	391. Với người thân miệng ý,
by body, speech or mind,	Không làm các ác hạnh
in these three ways restrained,	Ba nghiệp được phòng hộ,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
392. From whom one knows the Dhamma	392. Từ ai, biết chánh pháp
by Perfect Buddha taught	Bậc Chánh Giác thuyết giảng,
devoutly one should honour them	Hãy kính lễ vị ấy,
as brahmin sacred fire.	Như Phạm chí thờ lửa.
393. By birth one is no brahmin,	393. Ðược gọi Bà-la-môn,
by family, austerity.	Không vì đầu bện tóc,
In whom are truth and Dhamma too	Không chủng tộc, thọ sanh,
pure is he, a Brahmin's he.	Ai thật chân, chánh, tịnh,
	Mới gọi Bà-la-môn.
394. Dimwit! What's the coiled hair for?	394. Kẻ ngu, có ích gì
For what your cloak of skins?	Bện tóc với da dê,
Within you are acquisitive,	Nội tâm toàn phiền não,
you decorate without!	Ngoài mặt đánh bóng suông.
395. One enduring rag-robes, lean,	395. Người mặc áo đống rác,
with body o'erspread by veins,	Gầy ốm, lộ mạch gân,
lone in the woods who meditates,	Ðộc thân thiền trong rừng.
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
396. I call him a brahmin though	396. Ta không gọi Phạm chí,
by womb-born mother's lineage,	Vì chỗ sanh, mẹ sanh.
he's just supercilious	Chỉ được gọi tên suông
if with sense of ownership,	Nếu tâm còn phiền não.
owning nothing and unattached:	Không phiền não, chấp trước
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
397. Who fetters all has severed	397. Ðoạn kết các kiết sử,
does tremble not at all,	Không còn gì lo sợ
who's gone beyond all bond, unyoked,	Không đắm trước buộc ràng
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
398. When cutting strap and reins,	398. Bỏ đai da [4] bỏ cương [5]
the rope and bridle too,	Bỏ dây [6] , đồ sở thuộc [7]
tipping the shaft, he's Waked,	Bỏ then chốt [8] , sáng suốt,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
399. Who angerless endures abuse,	399. Không ác ý, nhẫn chịu,
beating and imprisonment,	Phỉ báng, đánh, phạt hình,
with patience's power, an armed might:	Lấy nhẫn làm quân lực,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
400. Who's angerless and dutiful,	400. Không hận, hết bổn phận,
of virtue full and free of lust,	Trì giới, không tham ái,
who's tamed, to final body come,	Nhiếp phục, thân cuối cùng,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
401. Like water on a lotus leaf,	401. Như nước trên lá sen,
or mustard seed on needle point,	Như hột cải đầu kim,
whoso clings not to sensual things,	Người không nhiễm ái dục,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
402. Whoso in this world comes to know	402. Ai tự trên đời này,
cessation of all sorrow,	Giác khổ, diệt trừ khổ,
laid down the burden, freed from bonds,	Bỏ gánh nặng, giải thoát,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
403. Whose knowledge is deep, who's wise,	403. Người trí tuệ sâu xa,
who's skilled in ways right and wrong,	Khéo biết đạo, phi đạo
having attained the highest aim,	Chứng đạt đích vô thượng,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
404. Aloof alike from laity	404. Không liên hệ cả hai,
and those gone forth to homelessness,	Xuất gia và thế tục,
who wanders with no home or wish,	Sống độc thân, ít dục,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
405. Who blows to beings has renounced	405. Bỏ trượng, đối chúng sanh,
to trembling ones, to bold,	Yếu kém hay kiên cường,
who causes not to kill nor kills,	Không giết, không bảo giết,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
406. Among the hostile, friendly,	406. Thiên thần giữa thù địch
among the violent, cool	Ôn hòa giữa hung hăng.
detached amidst the passionate,	Không nhiễm giữa, nhiễm trước,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
407. From whomever lust and hate,	407. Người bỏ rơi tham sân,
conceit, contempt have dropped away,	Không mạn không ganh tị,
as mustard seed from a point of a needle,	Như hột cải đầu kim,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
408. Who utters speech instructive,	408. Nói lên lời ôn hòa,
true and gentle too,	Lợi ích và chân thật,
who gives offence to none,	Không mất lòng một ai,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
409. Who in the world will never take	409. Ở đời, vật dài, ngắn,
what is not given, long or short,	Nhỏ, lớn, đẹp hay xấu
the great or small, the fair or foul,	Phàm không cho không lấy,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
410. In whom there are no longings found	410. Người không có hy cầu,
in this world or the next,	Ðời này và đời sau,
longingless and free from bonds,	Không hy cầu, giải thoát,
that one I call Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
411. In whom there is no dependence found,	411. Người không còn tham ái,
with Final Knowledge freed from doubt,	Có trí, không nghi hoặc,
who's plunged into the Deathless depths,	Thể nhập vào bất tử,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
412. Here who's gone beyond both bonds,	412. Người sống ở đời này,
to goodness and to evil too,	Không nhiễm cả thiện, ác,
is sorrowless, unsullied, pure,	Không sầu, sạch không bụi
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
413. Who, like the moon, unblemished, pure,	413. Như trăng sạch không uế
is clear and limpid, and in whom	Sáng trong và tịnh lặng,
delights in being a consumed,	Hữu ái được đoạn tận,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
414.Who's passed this difficult path,	414. Vượt đường nguy hiễm này,
delusion's bond, the wandering-on,	Nhiếp phục luân hồi, si,
who's crossed beyond, contemplative,	Ðến bờ kia thiền định
uncraving with no questioning doubt,	Không dục ái, không nghi,
no clinging's fuel so cool become,	Không chấp trước, tịch tịnh,
that one I call a Brahmin true.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
415. Who has abandoned lusting here	415. Ai ở đời đoạn dục,
as homeless one renouncing all,	Bỏ nhà, sống xuất gia,
with lust and being quite consumed,	Dục hữu được đoạn tận,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
416. Who has abandoned lusting here	416. Ai ở đời đoạn ái
as homeless one renouncing all,	Bỏ nhà, sống xuất gia,
with lust and being quite consumed,	Áí hữu được đoạn tận,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
417. Abandoned all human bonds	417. Bỏ trói buộc loài người,
and gone beyond the bonds of gods,	Vượt trói buộc cỏi trời.
unbound one is from every bond,	Giải thoát mọi buộc ràng,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
418. Abandoned boredom and delight,	418. Bỏ điều ưa, điều ghét,
become quite cool and assetless,	Mát lạnh, diệt sanh y
a hero, All-worlds-Conqueror,	Bậc anh hùng chiến thắng,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Nhiếp phục mọi thế giới,
	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
419. Who knows how clutching creatures die	419. Ai hiểu rõ hoàn toàn
to reappear in many a mode,	Sanh tử các chúng sanh,
unclutching then, sublime, Awake,	Không nhiễm, khéo vượt qua,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Sáng suốt chân giác ngộ,
	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
420. Whose destination is unknown	420. Với ai, loài trời, người
to humans, spirits or to gods,	Cùng với Càn thát bà,
pollutions stayed, an Arahant,	Không biết chỗ thọ sanh
that one I call a Brahmin True	Lậu tận bậc La-hán.
	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
421. That one who's free of everything	421. Ai quá, hiện, vị lai
that's past, that's present, yet to be,	Không một sở hữu gì,
who nothing owns, who's unattached,	Không sở hữu không nắm,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
422. One noble, most excellent, heroic too,	422. Bậc trâu chúa, thù thắng
great sage and one who conquers all,	Bậc anh hùng, đại sĩ,
who's faultless, washed, one Awake,	Bậc chiến thắng, không nhiễm,
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Bậc tẩy sạch, giác ngộ,
	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
423. Who so does know of former lives	423. Ai biết được đời trước,
and sees the states of bliss and woe	Thấy thiên giới, đọa xứ,
and then who's reached the end of births,	Ðạt được sanh diệt tận
a sage supreme with wisdom keen,	Thắng trí, tự viên thành
complete in all accomplishments,	Bậc mâu ni đạo sĩ.
that one I call a Brahmin True.	Viên mãn mọi thành tựu
	Ta gọi Bà-la-môn.
