| Trong năm Bính-dần (1926) Đức Chí-Tôn giáng-trần khai Đạo phổ-hoá chúng-sanh làm lành, lành dữ, tức là Cơ-quan cứu thế. | In the year Bính Dần (1926), the Supreme Being descended to Earth to establish the Great Way, teaching sentient beings to do good and avoid evil. This is the Agency for the Salvation of the World. |
| Khi mà Đạo truyền bá khắp các Tỉnh rồi, qua đến ngày rằm tháng sáu Đinh-mão (1927) Đức Lý Giáo-Tông cấm cơ bút, thì chư vị Chức Sắc Đại Thiên-Phong không rõ tại sao, nhứt là Đức Quyền Giáo-Tông có lòng sở mộ về cơ bút đã trãi qua một thời gian lắng nghe lời Thánh-giáo, nên Đức Quyền Giáo-Tông định cầu Diêu-Trì Kim-Mẫu và Cửu-Vị Tiên-Nương đặng học hỏi về Đạo-Đức. | After the Great Way had spread to all the provinces, on the 15th day of the 6th month of the year Đinh Mão (1927), Spiritual Pope Li-Tai-Pei prohibited the use of planchette writing. The Great Divinely Conferred Dignitaries, did not understand why, especially the acting Pope (Đức Quyền Giáo Tông), who had a deep admiration for planchette writing and had spent a long time listening to the Holy Teachings. Therefore, the acting Pope (Đức Quyền Giáo Tông) decided to pray to The Universal Mother Goddess (Diêu Trì Kim Mẫu) and the Nine Fairy Ladies (Cửu Vị Tiên Nương) to learn more about the Great Way. |
| Đến ngày14 tháng11 năm Đinh-Mão, Đức Lý Giáo-Tông mới giáng cơ thì xem hình như Ngài có đại nộ, mà chẳng hiểu Ngài giận việc chi, Ngài mới cho một bài Thánh-Giáo như vầy: | On the 14th of November of the year Đinh Mão, Spiritual Pope Li-Tai-Pei descended through planchette writing. He seemed to be very angry, but no one knew why. He then gave the following Holy Teaching: |

| Đời quá dữ, tội tình ấy, hình phạt kia cũng đáng đó chút. Lão vì thương yêu nhơn-sanh hội 10 ngày nơi Bạch-Ngọc-Kinh cải cho qua nạn nhơn-loại, nhưng luật Thiên-Đình chẳng dễ chi sữa đặng. | The world is too evil, and its sins deserve such punishment. I, out of compassion for sentient beings, gathered them for 10 days in the Bạch Ngọc Kinh to help them avoid the calamity. However, the laws of Heaven are not easily changed. The calamity of extermination is approaching. |
| Nạn tiêu-diệt hầu gần, hết chém giết lẫn nhau, đến buổi bịnh chướng sát hại. | After the killing and slaughtering, there will come a time of pestilence and death. |
| Lão thấy hình phạt phải châu mày, nhưng ôm lòng rán chịu, lạy lục khẩn cầu; chư Đạo-hửu đâu rõ thấu, ngơ-ngơ ngáo-ngáo như kẻ không hồn, thấy càng thảm thiết !!! | I see the punishment and frown, but I bear it with all my heart and bow down to plead. Fellow practitioners, you do not understand, you are all dazed and confused like soulless beings. It is even more tragic to see! |
| Lão tưởng chẳng cần nói chi một nước nhỏ nhen đã đặng danh Thánh-địa là Nước Nam nầy, mà lão xin không đặng tội cho Thành Sài-Gòn, Chợ-Lớn, Gia-Định, Huế, Hải-Phòng, Hà-nội.. thảm ! Thảm ! Thảm !". | I thought it would be unnecessary to mention a small country that has already been named the Holy Land, of this Southern Country. However, I cannot beg the sin of the cities of Saigon, Chợ Lớn, Gia Định, Huế, Hải Phòng, and Hà Nội be forgiven. Alas! Alas! Alas!" |

| Đức Lý Giáo-Tông, Ngài định phạt Đức Quyền Giáo-Tông 10 hương, Hộ-Pháp (Dharma Protector/Guardian of the Law) 5 hương, Ông Phối-Sư Binh 5 hương, xét kỷ ra là Đức Lý Ngài giận ai chớ chẳng phải giận anh em tôi đâu. | Spiritual Pope Li-Tai-Pei intended to punish the acting Pope (Đức Quyền Giáo Tông) with 10 incense sticks, Hộ Pháp with 5 incense sticks, and Ông Phối Sư Binh with 5 incense sticks. In fact, Spiritual Pope Li-Tai-Pei was angry with someone else, not with us. It is a pity for humanity. |
| Tiếc thay cho nhơn-sanh, chớ chi trong thời-kỳ Đại-Đạo Hoằng-khai, mà lại để tâm tín-ngưởng chung thờ một Tôn-giáo, tròn giữ theo luật pháp của Đạo, lo trau-dồi đức-hạnh, làm phải làm lành liên lạc thương-yêu, thuận-hoà cùng chung, thì ngày nay đâu có lâm tai nạn đao binh như thế. | If only during the period of the Great Way of Universal Salvation (Đại Đạo Hoằng khai), people had put their hearts into believing in and following one religion,comply with the laws of the Great Way, cultivated their virtues, done good deeds, and shown love and compassion to one another, then today there would not be such wars and bloodshed. |
| Trái lại, Chức-sắc Thiên-Phong là người cầm phướng chiêu-hồn diù-dắt chúng-sanh thoát khổ, mà đi đến đâu đều bị họ chê-bai, biếm-nhẻ, kích-bác, hất hủi đủ thứ, Chức-Sắc Hội-Thánh đem hồng-ân của Đức Chí-Tôn rải khắp các nơi cho nhơn-sanh chung-hưởng, mà họ coi như vật thường, không có giá trị gì, họ đã mài miệt chạy theo khoa-học, chú trọng về văn-minh vật chất, chớ không hấp-thụ được đạo-đức tinh-thần, họ đeo đuổi theo nguồn tranh đấu là cơ tự-diệt, chớ nào rõ biết cơ bảo-tồn qui cỗ là gì, mãi đến ngày nay mà họ cũng chưa tỉnh. | On the contrary, the Divinely Conferred Dignitaries are the ones who hold the banner to guide sentient beings out of suffering. However, wherever they go, they are ridiculed, mocked, provoked, and rejected. The Dignitaries of the Holy See spread the grace of the Supreme Being to all places for all people to share, but they are considered ordinary things, of no value. They are obsessed with pursuing science and material civilization, but do not absorb spiritual morality. They are chasing after the source of conflict, which is the mechanism of self-destruction, without knowing what the mechanism of preservation and restoration is. To this day, they have not yet awakened. |
| Còn nói về phần chư Môn-đệ của Đức Chí-Tôn, từ buổi đem thân vào cửa Đạo trong lúc nhập môn đã quì trước Bửu-Điện có bàn Ngũ-Lôi, mà lập minh-thệ rằng: | Speaking of the disciples of the Supreme Being, from the moment they enter the Great Way, they kneel before the Precious Hall (Bửu Điện) with the Five Thunders (Ngũ Lôi) table and make a solemn oath: |
| "Từ đây tôi biết một Đạo Cao-Đài Ngọc-Đế, chẳng đổi-dạ đổi-lòng hiệp vòng chư môn-đệ, giữ gìn luật-lệ Cao-Đài, như sau có lòng hại thì thiên tru địa-lục". | "From this day forward, I know of one Great Way of Cao Đài Ngọc Đế. I will not change my heart or mind, and I will join the ranks of the disciples. I will uphold the laws of Cao Đài. If I ever have a malicious heart, may I be punished by heaven and earth." |

| Cho những người thề như vậy, mà cũng không để trọn đức-tin nơi Chí-Tôn lại thối bước ngã lòng, cởi áo Đạo, dẹp khăn tu, mong mải xu hướng theo con đường tục-luỵ, cho nên gây tạo ra con đường làn súng mủi đạn ngày nay. | For those who have sworn such an oath, yet have not kept their faith in the Supreme Being, they have fallen back and lost their hearts. They have taken off their robes of the Great Way, put away their headscarves of practice, and eagerly followed the path of worldly attachments. Therefore, they have created the path of guns and bullets today. |
| Vậy, ai là người thất thệ với Chí-Tôn thì phải sớm thức tỉnh tâm-hồn, ăn-năn sám-hối, cầu xin Đại Từ-Phụ cùng các Đấng Thiêng-Liêng, từ-bi ân-xá tội-lỗi tiền-khiên, hoạ may đặng chung hưởng ân-huệ của Đức Chí-Tôn ban cho sau này. | Therefore, anyone who has broken their oath to the Supreme Being must quickly awaken their soul, repent and regret, and pray to the Great and Merciful Father and the Divine Beings for their compassionate forgiveness of their past sins. |
| Ngày nào toàn-thể nhơn-sanh đều biết hồi đầu hướng thiện, nhìn Đạo Trời là một Cơ-Quan cứu-thế, thật hành chủ-nghĩa thương yêu cho ra thiệt tướng thì ngày ấy mới đặng hưởng hoà-bình đại-đồng thế-giới. | Only then may they have the chance to share in the grace of the Supreme Being in the future. Only when all of humanity knows how to turn back to goodness, see the Heavenly Way as an Agency for the salvation of the world, and truly practice the principle of love will there be peace and great harmony in the world. |

Hộ Pháp – is the one who unveils the Mystery of the Invisible and is the Maintainer of the Rules and laws of the New Religion / Cao- Đài Religion. He is the one who pronounces judgments on the dignitaries and disciples, elevates the dignity of the fervent through their merit and brings sanctions against those who have committed faults. He is actively involved in assuring that the religious Rules and Laws which have become Divine Laws are carried out in detail, in order to keep the dignitaries and adepts free of the sufferings inflicted by the Lords of Karma.
In so acting, he watches over the positive progress of the disciples in the Way of God, and guides all evolved souls to achieve the Divine Phase of the Great Spirits. He holds control over the Legislative Power both exoterically and esoterically.
